Delegation headed by Anna Kuznetsova visits Syria
On March 28-30, delegation headed by Anna Kuznetsova, Vice-Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Deputy Secretary of the General Council of the “United Russia” Party visited Syria.
On March 28 the delegation was received by the First Lady Asma al-Assad. During the meeting the strengthening of bilateral cooperation was discussed with the focus on the national policies in moral education of the youth in order to resist the imposition of Western cultural values.
On the same day Russian parliamentarians met with Hamouda Sabbagh, Chairman of the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic. Special attention was paid to the prospects of intensifying interparliamentary dialogue, including through the specialized committees. The Chairman also thanked Russia for the assistance provided to Syria following the February 6 earthquake. Then the parliamentarians held talks with the members of the Syrian-Russian Friendship Committee at the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic.
In addition members of the delegation from the “United Russia” Party met with the deputy secretary general of “Baath” Party Hilal Al-Hilal. During the conversation the parties emphasized the importance of increasing interparty interaction in order to uphold the socio-cultural interests of the two countries.
On March 29, the Russian parliamentary delegation also visited the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, the monastery of Saints Sergius & Bacchus and the monastery of St. Tekla in Maaloula.
On March 30, the members of the delegation visited the Tishrin University Hospital in Latakia and handed over necessary medical equipment and supplies, food and gifts for the hospitalized children.
